about

A long time ago, tucked away in some forgotten wooded cranny, there was a village. Wrapped around this village, there was a Darkness. Though it is unclear whether the village and the Darkness were friends or enemies, they did know each other. And every harvest season, on the night of the first winds, the children of the village would venture out into the woods; not all would return…

One thousand years later, a boy grows tired with the constraints of modern life. Raised on fanciful tales of magic and purpose, he vows to force such a fairytale upon reality. He too discovers the Darkness, though he is not as afraid as he should be. Others soon join the boy, drawn towards his promises of transcendence, each with their own desires and demands. Of these is ███, seeking to drown their ennui with new friends. And so, on the night of potential, the new village children venture out into the woods…

At first, all seems well– sublimity as promised. The Dance appears to have worked. Though ever so slowly, a doubt starts to swell and the beauty and fun grow sickening. And as the night drags on, the Darkness makes his appearance, having been willingly built through belief. Madness, confusion, and horror ensue, and ███ barely escapes with their life. In fact if it weren’t for the kindness of a few passersby, they would have surely been lost to the cold of the night.

███ awakes in an unfamiliar room, still a bit dazed but intensely grateful to still be breathing. Later, after they’ve left the forest for good, they record their experience the only way they know how.
